Guildford & District Canine Society Open Show 2014 Critique

My thanks to G&DCS committee for inviting me, my efficient steward, and especially, the exhibitors for turning up on such a rotten day.  It is an honour and privilege to have their support and allow me to go over their hounds.

Junior (2,0)

1 G & V Meer’s Shagiead Aunt Hetty For Lordswell.  14m B.  Pretty, feminine youngster, well-set ears, dark eyes and soft expression.  Correct scissor bite. Neck of good length, set into well laid shoulders.  Has width in front and good depth of brisket, spring of rib, tuck up and fall away at croup with pleasing tail set.   Broad hindquarters, good angulation and length hip to hock. Strong feet and in good coat. Top-line sometimes tense when standing but movement was sound, straight, balanced, and covered the ground with purpose.  Best mover hence BOB

2 Spring-Arnold’s Chuilinn Bellina.  9m B  This puppy caught my eye.  Lovely head and expression, well-set ears, dark eyes and correct scissor bite.  Over-all, she was of good bone and well-proportioned showing good angulation of the fore and hind quarters.   Good depth of brisket and spring of rib. She has a crisp harsh coat and tight feet.  She was pacing though, which needed correcting much sooner. Her movement was erratic and exuberant, but I did see enough good steps in profile, and when coming/going.  Given time, she has a lot to offer.  BP&PG3

Postgraduate (2,1)

1 Lucas & Dargonne’s Packway Comanche Moon. 2y D.  A handsome young dog, with well set ears, dark eye with typical expression and correct scissor bite. Strong neck into well-laid shoulders.  Would like to see a little more depth of brisket, well-sprung ribs. Hind quarters broad with length from hip to hock, feet well knuckled. Strong second thigh and in fit condition. Movement active and balanced in profile, straight coming but would like to see hind legs with a little more space between going away, hence BOS.

Open  (6,1)

1 Wilson’s  Hamiltonhill One Vision   6y4m B.  A smaller-sized bitch, showing the best activity and soundness in movement in this class today.  Feminine head with well set ears, but could be a little smaller and rose-like, dark eyes with a gentle expression and correct scissor bite. Pleasing reach of neck into fair shoulder placement, would like to see a little more return of upper arm. Fair depth of brisket and good spring of rib.  Body a little long, though top line flows nicely to a fall away at the croup with a well set and super long tail.   Fair breadth of hindquarters with pleasing rear angulation. Neat feet. Covered the ground with reach and drive whilst holding her top line.  Straight coming and going.

2 Lucas & Dargonne’s Glenmorlich None So Pretty for Packway   5y7m B  A curvier bitch, feminine head, dark ears and eyes which were gentle and expressive.  Pleasing length of neck set onto well-laid shoulders. Good depth of brisket, spring of rib and tuck up, quarters falling away to well set tail, fair hind angulation.  Pushed hard for first place, but I preferred the movement of the winner on this occasion.

3 Mesd J & J Gilhooly & Morrissey’s Lord Seafield Of Hartvalley.
